Ascension Catholic Cemetery was opened as the first Archdiocesan Cemetery to serve Lake County. In addition to caring for itself, Ascension Cemetery is also the "parent" cemetery for ten former parish cemeteries. These parish cemeteries account for an additional one hundred plus burials per year. The first Garden Crypt was erected in 1973 and since then three additional complexes have been completed. The most recent, the Ascension Garden Crypt Complex opened in 1998.
